Dear Highland Park Elementary School Families,

Welcome to Highland Park Elementary School. It is truly an honor and privilege to be a part of this wonderful community! I am excited to begin my 25^th year in the Upper Darby School District, 31^st year as an educator. My parents emigrated from Italy in the late 1950’s and settled in Upper Darby, so it brings me great joy to give back to the community that had such a positive impact on my family’s lives.

Our Highland Park school community works together to provide our students with strong academics while also supporting their social and emotional needs, and helping them to develop into resilient, confident, and independent individuals. Highland Park is a caring environment where all students feel welcome and cared for. We challenge and provide opportunities for every student to go beyond their potential and achieve academic success, and personal success. We incorporate PBIS strategies that encourage and reward students for their commitment to a positive learning environment. Students embrace our “bees”: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and always Be Kind, and Be Royal.

Highland Park Elementary School has a dedicated staff who continually improve their own knowledge and expertise to ensure your children receive the highest quality education. We focus on building relationships, inclusivity, and collaboration. We are passionate about education and the well-being of every child which is our driving force each day.

We have a motivated and committed Home & School Association. We appreciate all they do to contribute to our students’ success and family involvement. I strongly encourage you to become an active member of our Home & School Association as together we strengthen our partnership to ensure that every student and their family feels connected to the school and community.

Message from the Assistant Principal

Dear Students and Families,

Welcome to an exciting new year at our school. My name is William Smalls, the proud Assistant Principal of The Highland Park Elementary. I am a South Philadelphia native with 15 years in education and fairly new to the Upper Darby School District. I am elated to be a part of this wonderful community where learning, kindness, and teamwork come together every day.

This year will be full of opportunities to grow, explore, and achieve great things. Our teachers and staff are ready to help every student discover their strengths, build friendships, and feel proud of their accomplishments.

As Assistant Principal, I’m here to support both students and families. Please know that my door is always open for questions, ideas, or just a quick hello. When we work together, amazing things happen and I can’t wait to see all the learning and fun ahead!
